Political authorities such as representative offices are given basically for the services of a particular people, who are defined by ethnicity, language, political unit or boundary. Except such a people exist, no one will be given a mandate to represent them.
The Isoko federal constituency has a representative at the federal House of Representatives because Isoko nation is in existence. Whoever has been given the mandate to represent her, therefore, is employed to serve the Isoko people. Such a person cannot be seen running independently or running solo without collaborating with the Isoko people, whom he serves as often as possible to know their needs, demands, and positions in national issues.
In the last 16 years, the representation of the Isoko people has been ran differently. Our House of Representatives member has not been in touch with those he represent. Hence, he has neither execute projects that are of paramount interest of the Isoko people nor sponsored bills that favours the ethnic nationalities. The motions that he has moved or supported were either for political reasons or parochial interest. At best, we can conclude that our House of Representatives member has in the last 16 years represented himself and perhaps, his family member and/or a few friends.
This is how the Isoko federal constituency has been stagnant for complete 16 years. So, when we discovered issues of non-existent projects infiltrating our budget from Isoko land; when we found out issues of contract grabbing by our representative; when we see unexecuted and abandoned projects in our constituency; when we see no federal presence in Isoko federal constituency; when our people were totally excluded from federal government empowerment programs for Niger Delta and the programs of Interventionist Agencies; when palliative items given and donated by MDAs and NGOs to the Isoko federal constituency were used as personal gift items; etc, we cried less because we knew that Isoko federal constituency was not having a representative in the real sense.
However, we have been praying for an opportunity to presence itself so that we can change stagnation in Isoko federal constituency with people-oriented representative. A man that will take a position of a messenger that always report to the people and know what direction they would prefer to follow. Not a demigod that careless about the growth of the Isoko federal constituency. A man that would rather oppress those he ought to represent and insult their sensitivity by boosting endlessly of his accumulated wealth, which he can used to buy them whenever he wants to.
You see, I am not here to tell you endless stories. I just want to say that the midnight and silent prayers we have had for years now, have been finally answered by the Divine.
Today, we have a man who has not just succeeded admirably in all his endeavours but one that I termed a silent developer and a lover of growth and progress of the Isoko nation in the 2019 House of Representatives ballot. Hon. Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, the APC House of Representatives candidate is a man with rare leadership qualities. As a representative and messenger of the Isoko federal constituency, he will not run with assumptions or his own mentality. But he shall constantly be in touch with the constituents through town hall meetings anchored by Isoko Development Union, IDU and social media interactive sessions with him. There shall be 24/7 suggestions channels that will be opened to the people to keep Hon. Joel-Onowakpo Thomas on the track as the representative of the people.
Undoubtedly, the era of Hon. Joel-Onowakpo Thomas will mark the end of stagnation and non-impacting representation in Isoko federal constituency. That sense of belonging that we have lost for years now will be restored speedily and the Isoko people will measure up with their counterparts in Niger Delta.
Therefore, let us position ourselves strategically to elect Honourable Joel-Onowakpo Thomas for House of Representatives. Let us vote APC for meaningful Change in our constituency!!!
