| Pupils of Okotie Oboh Primary School learning in a dilapidated classroom block |
More facts have emerged about Delta State learning environment for primary school Pupils after the video of little Success Adegor went viral to exposed illegal school fees charged by Okotie Eboh Primary School 1 in Sapele, Delta State.
Mrs. Vero Igbigwe, the headmistress of the dilapidated school was suspended on Monday pending the outcome of a formal enquiry into the issue of unauthorized levies/and school fees reportedly imposed by her in the school after the Education Commissioner in the state, Chinedu Ebie visited the school for a fact-finding.
More worrisome, however, is the dehumanizing condition the Pupils of the school and their teachers are subjected to due to total aban donment of the school by the government and lack of facilities in the school environment.
It is sad and annoying that the Pupils of Okotie Eboh Primary are made to learn in an unconducive environment in a State like Delta State, which collects the highest monthly allocation from the federal government.
CITIZENS COURT learnt that the Pupils learn under the sun and rain as a result of the high level of dilapidated building in the school. The staff of the school are not left out. The entire roof of the staff room is totally bad that teachers run from pillar to post to save their documents in an event of rainfall.
If Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, the Governor of Delta State values education, he would not allow the Pupils of Delta State to learn in a disease prone, abandoned property, dilapidated structures and Dehumanizing environment. Primary school is where the foundation of education is laid, as such little kids deserve to be comfortable and learn in a conducive environment.
The State government and Non-Governmental Organizations should immediately come to the rescue of the kids in Okotie Eboh Primary School.
